The useful receipt is the one you can find when a return, warranty or reimbursement question comes up. Give it a home while the purchase is still fresh.
Keep the receipt with the purchase.
Record the transaction, add a description you will recognize, and attach a clear receipt photo. For an item you may need to identify later, a note such as “desk lamp, home office” is more helpful than “shopping.”
In PonderFi, receipt photos are attachments to transaction records. The app does not automatically verify a receipt, extract its contents into a transaction, or decide whether an expense is deductible.
Take a useful photo.
- Lay the receipt flat and use even light.
- Include the merchant, date, items and total where possible.
- Check that the writing is readable before discarding any optional copy.
- Avoid uploading unrelated personal details or sensitive information you don’t need to retain.
Choose what is worth keeping.
Start with items you might return, purchases with warranty coverage, and expenses you may need to document for someone else. Ask your employer, retailer or adviser what documentation they accept. Requirements differ, and a photograph may not replace an original.
Do not discard tax, legal or warranty records solely because you uploaded an image. Keep originals and independent copies where required. Retention and evidence rules depend on your circumstances and location.
Review before sharing.
A receipt can contain an address, loyalty number or part of a payment-card number. If you attach it to activity in a shared account, treat it as information that could be available to the other members. Share only what you intend them to see.
A small routine, less searching.
Try attaching the receipts you care about at the end of the day. Once a month, look through your recent records and check for missing details. The goal is a useful record of a purchase, ready for the next question life sends your way.
